The Importance of Being Earnest

April 24, 2014 @ 7:30 pm – May 4, 2014 @ 2:30 pm
Mark A. Chapman Theatre

K-State presents “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde on April 24 – 26 & May 1 – 3 at 7:30 PM with a matinee on May 4 at 2:30 PM in Mark A. Chapman Theatre (formerly Nichols Theatre).

Follow the distressing romances of two hapless gentlemen in this popular play that delivers comedy with a sharp edge. “The Importance of Being Earnest” leads you through these fellows’ elaborate lies that twist into conflict and hilarity through witty dialogue, physical comedy and sentimental drama. Confronted by the regulations and expectations of Victorian society, the men ultimately learn the importance of – you guessed it – being Earnest. Directed by Charlotte MacFarland.

April 25, 2014 @ 7:30 pm – May 4, 2014 @ 10:30 pm
Manhattan Arts Center, 1520 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS, 66502, United States

Based on the “coat of many colors” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, the musical tells the story of Joseph, son of Jacob. The favored son, he is betrayed by his jealous brothers and sold into slavery and driven to Egypt. Though beset with adversity, Joseph perseveres through wit and faith and becomes the governor of Egypt, second only to the Pharaoh. This all sets the scene for when he meets his brothers who have come to Egypt to purchase food. Its family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music have made it extremely popular with audiences and performers alike.
