Elisabeth von Trapp with the Carolian Brass

When:
December 1, 2013 @ 4:00 pm
Where:
McCainKSU, 207 McCain Auditorium, Manhattan, KS, 66506, United States

Celebrate the joyful sounds of the season.

The granddaughter of the legendary Maria and Baron von Trapp, whose story inspired “The Sound of Music,” performs Bach, Handel and show-stopping Broadway tunes accompanied by one of North American’s finest brass ensembles. The show also includes a medley from “The Sound of Music” and festive holiday favorites. A local children’s choir will accompany Von Trapp on “Edelweiss” and “My Favorite Things.”

With a voice that critics have called “hauntingly clear” (New York Times), Von Trapp has enthralled audiences from European cathedrals to Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center. Bring the entire family to a joyful celebration that will delight with wintertime and holiday cheer.

“Before the concert is over, she will have the audience gasping with the sheer beauty of her voice.” —Boston Globe

The biennial fundraiser for McCain Auditorium will feature five area residences and one sorority house decorated for the holiday season. Money raised from this eventwill help support the McCain Performance Series and its education and outreach activities.

Selection and coordination of homes begins as much as a year in advance to allow homeowners adequate time to plan and prepare for the event.

“The McCain Performance Series and its outreach and education programs such as free children’s performances are largely supported by corporate sponsorships, individual giving, grants and fundraising events, including the Holiday Home Tour,” said Todd Holmberg, executive director of McCain Auditorium. “The tour helps make it possible to present world-class events at McCain on a yearly basis. The community also enjoys touring the homes and seeing a snapshot of the homeowners’ holiday traditions.”

The Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks! 10th Anniversary Tour!!

When:
December 11, 2013 @ 7:00 pm
Where:
McCainKSU, 207 McCain Auditorium, Manhattan, KS, 66506, United States

The Brian Setzer Orchestra
Christmas Rocks! 10th Anniversary Tour!!

The Brian Setzer Orchestra brings their Christmas Rocks! 10th Anniversary Tour!! to McCain Auditorium. With a career spanning more than 30 years, Setzer has smash hits as founder/leader of The Stray Cats, his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra and as a solo artist. His Christmas concert will include Setzer’s legendary guitar magic on hits such as “Rock This Town,” “(She’s) Sexy +17,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Jump, Jive and Wail” and lots more, as well as his re-imagined and acclaimed holiday classics.

Three-time Grammy-award-winner Brian Setzer is a “musician’s musician” credited with consistently taking chances with innovative and daring musical styles, while single-handedly resurrecting two forgotten genres of music (rockabilly in the ‘80s and swing in the ‘90s). Along the way he has scored chart-topping hits throughout his decorated career as founder/leader of the Stray Cats, his 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, and as a solo artist.

If that wasn’t enough, Setzer found tremendous success in redefining Christmas music for a generation desperately desiring something new and exciting around the holidays. The result was three best-selling holiday albums (Boogie Woogie Christmas, Dig That Crazy Christmas and Christmas Rocks!: The Best Of Collection) and an annual Christmas tour that has certainly become the most exciting annual rockin’ Christmas event on the planet. The Los Angeles Times calls it a show “whose sheer joy is irresistible!”

Red Ribbon Ball

When:
December 7, 2013 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Where:
Union Station (Salsaritas) in the Student Union

The time has come again to hold our Red Ribbon Ball. This year, we decided to hold the ball in Union Station (Salsarita’s) at the Student Union. The ball is a safe place for anyone, LGBT or not, to have fun and dance your hearts out.

Unlike past years, we will be charging for entry into the ball. Our motivations behind doing so is to raise money for the HIV/AIDS and Client Services Fund serviced by the Junction City Teddy Bears. This fund helps members of our community with HIV and AIDS by providing financial relief when personal funds are low or medical bills are too high.

This is a semiformal-formal event. So, pull out whatever outfit you think you look best in and we will have the best Red Ribbon Ball yet! (If you don’t have super nice tuxedos or a diamond dress, don’t sweat it. Come with whatever you want to wear!)

We will be charging $5 per person and $8 per couple. If you wish to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the HIV/AIDS and Client Services Pantry, your ticket will cost $1 less.

There are many options as to where you can purchase your tickets.
1) LGBT and Allies Meetings (Thursdays, 6:30pm-8pm, Leadership Studies Room 126)
2) At our tables in the Union Nov. 18, 19, 20, 21st and the first week of December (Tables will be in the union from 10am-2pm on the given days)
3) From Chris Chavez, crchavez@ksu.edu
4) From Colton Kueser, cdkueser@ksu.edu
5) At the Red Ribbon Ball
