The World Blues Tour: Taj Mahal & Guests

When:
October 24, 2013 @ 7:30 pm
Where:
McCainKSU, 207 McCain Auditorium, Manhattan, KS, 66506, United States

The World Blues Tour is a celebration of American blues music’s global influence. Anchored by iconic folk-blues legend Taj Mahal, the evening also will feature the soulful South African blues of guitarist/vocalist Vusi Mahlasela and the modern rock and roll perspective of Fredericks Brown, a band featuring Taj’s daughter, Deva Mahal.

Over his five-decade career, the Grammy Award-winning Taj Mahal has been a master of global styles, from Mississippi Delta blues to Hawaiian stylings to African rhythms. In addition to headlining the program, he also is the binding thread throughout this extraordinary evening of music. Fresh from their sessions together on Vusi’s latest album, Taj and Vusi explore the intersection of African and American musical forms. Fredericks Brown’s talent makes it clear that Taj has influenced yet another generation, taking blues to new levels of excitement and innovation.

Season tickets (seven or more events) on sale now. Single tickets on sale July 28. http://www.k-state.edu/mccain/events/2013-2014/world-blues-tour.html.

Morgan Frazier.

Blessed with girl-next-door good looks—tall, slender with long, blonde locks and emotive doe-eyes—you’ll want to hug her immediately, and she’ll want to hug you, too. Yes, she’s that girl. After a brief chat with her, you realize the incredible work ethic that not only carried her on this long and complex journey, but continues to drive her to grow better with each song she writes. Yes, she writes her own songs. And you haven’t yet heard her sing.

At a time when country music is experiencing a virtual drought when it comes to women’s voices on the radio, Morgan Frazier has arrived. It’s a confident statement, but the Breckenridge, Texas native is truly a breath of fresh air for the format. While other female newcomers are positioning themselves as the next Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood or Taylor Swift, Morgan is simply being Morgan.

$8 Entry. 18+
