Metallica already had planned to release a new 3D film, but now, they’re dropping IMAX into the mix for the debut of “Metallica Through The Never”.
The film mixes concert footage with a “dramatic narrative and CGI”. It opens September 27th. It will be the first movie to debut on IMAX’s chain of super-sized screens. The film will open wide a week later.
Go big or go home appears to be the mantra for Metallica, who announced yesterday their forthcoming 3D film Metallica Through the Never will make its debut on mega-sized IMAX screens nationwide on September 27. The part-concert, part-theatrical movie will be the first film to premiere on IMAX, a fun fact not lost on drummer Lars Ulrich, who said, “To be at the forefront in this situation where IMAX has never done this is very exciting. The recognition from IMAX…is super cool.”
The band also built a stage to film its concert pieces so fans will have the feeling of being inside the performance.
