In a dramatic turn of events that began to unfold late Thursday after an MIT Police officer was shot dead and his cruiser stolen, one of the Boston Marathon Bombing suspects is now dead with the other on the loose following a shootout with the FBI and the National Guard.
After the shooting that left the MIT police officer dead, the two suspects committed an armed-robbery at a 7-11 and stole another vehicle, briefly kidnapping the driver. The driver was later released uninjured.
The stolen vehicle was tracked down in Watertown where an intense shootout occurred. The suspects were armed with guns as well as explosive devices that they hurled at law enforcement. That shootout resulted in the death of one suspect (wearing a black hat in photos released by the FBI). The suspect reportedly had explosives strapped to his chest.
The second suspect (wearing a white hat in the FBI photos) is still on the loose and believed to be in Watertown. Local transportation, public schools and businesses are on lockdown this morning as authorities search for him. He is believed to be armed and extremely dangerous, with explosives possibly strapped to his chest.
