General Public Lecture in Physics @ Hale Library

Michael Brooks will present the 2015 Chester Peterson, Jr. Public Lecture in Physics.  This lecture, “Welcome to Wonderland: Making sense of life in a quantum universe” will be held on Monday, April 27th at 4:30 pm in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library at Kansas State University.  Brooks is noted for explaining complex scientific research and findings to the general public.  Copies of Dr. Brook’s newest book “At The Edge of Uncertainty” will be available for sale outside of the Hemisphere Room in the Gallery at 4:00 pm.  Dr. Brooks will be available to sign the book at that time and immediately following the lecture for a short time.  Refreshments will be available at 4:00 pm in the foyer of the Hemisphere Room.  The lecture is open to the public and is free of charge.  Students, faculty and community members are encouraged to attend.

The Riley County Seniors’ Service Center is holding its annual Spring Indoor Sale on Wednesday, April 29th and Thursday, April 30th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Friday, May 1st from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.  The sale, which is an annual fundraiser, will be held at the Center.  Center members and the public have donated items for the sale, which is open to the public.  Shoppers will find a variety of household items, kitchenware, arts and craft supplies, glassware, luggage, lamps, a brass bed frame, garden supplies, and many more items too numerous to list.  The Center will accept donations through noon on Tuesday, April 28th (no shoes, clothes, exercise equipment, televisions, or weapons, please).  The proceeds from this fundraising event support the Center’s programs and activities.

Run for the Hills! Fun Run/Walk @ Flint Hills Center

Run for the Hills! Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 2nd starting at 9:00 am.  Race includes a 5K run timed by Manhattan Running Company and an untimed 2-mile walk – both open to anyone.  Featuring a flat race course.  Medals for the male and female overall winners as well as first, second, and third place medals for five age groups of males and females.  The race course will start and finish at the Flint Hills Center.  Register by April 10th to be guaranteed a race t-shirt!  Register by April 10th, entry fee is $25 per individual for chip timed 5K and $20 for untimed 2-mile walk.  Register after April 10th, $30 for chip timed 5K, $25 for untimed 2-mile walk.  Those under the age of 18 must have a guardian sign the waiver of liability.  Dogs, skateboards, roller skates and motorized vehicles are not allowed on the race course.  Register at: manhattanrunningco.com or call Amanda Martin at 785-776-9294.

Parents, leave the kids at the Flint Hills Discovery Center on Saturday, May 2nd for Kids’ Science Theater from 530 – 9:00 pm.  Doc Gizmo will be there to provide demonstrations and science experiments.  Children will learn about safety, thunder lightning, radar tracking, along with how to understand and prepare for a storm in the Flint Hills.  The program is geared towards kindergarten through 8th grade.  Children will create their own lip balm to protect their lips from the weather, a rain gauge to keep track of the rain at home and a weather vane to keep an eye on wind changes in the area.  Dinner is included with pre-registration. Leading up to their celebration of Mother’s Day on Friday, May 8th, during the week of May 4th-8th they will have a silent auction on women’s handbags.  The handbags will contain accessories and gift cards to local businesses.  The winner of each handbag will be announced at the Mother’s Day program on Friday, May 8th at 1:00 pm.  G. Thomas Jewelers will present a program about current trends in jewelry, graduation gift ideas, and ways to simplify the process of wearing jewelry.  Everyone will be able to make their own individual Fruit Pizzas for refreshments.  Please let them know if you plan to attend so they can be sure to have enough fruit pizza ingredients on hand.

Michael Brooks will present the 2015 Chester Peterson, Jr. Public Lecture in Physics.  This lecture, “Welcome to Wonderland: Making sense of life in a quantum universe” will be held on Monday, April 27th at 4:30 pm in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library at Kansas State University.  Brooks is noted for explaining complex scientific research and findings to the general public.  Copies of Dr. Brook’s newest book “At The Edge of Uncertainty” will be available for sale outside of the Hemisphere Room in the Gallery at 4:00 pm.  Dr. Brooks will be available to sign the book at that time and immediately following the lecture for a short time.  Refreshments will be available at 4:00 pm in the foyer of the Hemisphere Room.  The lecture is open to the public and is free of charge.  Students, faculty and community members are encouraged to attend.

Michael Brooks will present the 2015 Chester Peterson, Jr. Public Lecture in Physics.  This lecture, “Welcome to Wonderland: Making sense of life in a quantum universe” will be held on Monday, April 27th at 4:30 pm in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library at Kansas State University.  Brooks is noted for explaining complex scientific research and findings to the general public.  Copies of Dr. Brook’s newest book “At The Edge of Uncertainty” will be available for sale outside of the Hemisphere Room in the Gallery at 4:00 pm.  Dr. Brooks will be available to sign the book at that time and immediately following the lecture for a short time.  Refreshments will be available at 4:00 pm in the foyer of the Hemisphere Room.  The lecture is open to the public and is free of charge.  Students, faculty and community members are encouraged to attend.

The Riley County Seniors’ Service Center is holding its annual Spring Indoor Sale on Wednesday, April 29th and Thursday, April 30th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and Friday, May 1st from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.  The sale, which is an annual fundraiser, will be held at the Center.  Center members and the public have donated items for the sale, which is open to the public.  Shoppers will find a variety of household items, kitchenware, arts and craft supplies, glassware, luggage, lamps, a brass bed frame, garden supplies, and many more items too numerous to list.  The Center will accept donations through noon on Tuesday, April 28th (no shoes, clothes, exercise equipment, televisions, or weapons, please).  The proceeds from this fundraising event support the Center’s programs and activities.

Thomas Jewelers will present a program about current trends in jewelry, graduation gift ideas, and ways to simplify the process of wearing jewelry.  Everyone will be able to make their own individual Fruit Pizzas for refreshments.  Please let them know if you plan to attend so they can be sure to have enough fruit pizza ingredients on hand.
