The trailer for a documentary about Wisconsin’s Smart Studios features some famous faces like Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, and producer/Garbage founder Butch Vig.
Each of them share stories about how the studio became the birthplace of albums like Nirvana’s “Nevermind”, Smashing Pumpkins’ “Gish” and Fall Out Boy’s “Take This to Your Grave”.
“The Smart Studios Story” is seeking funds on Kickstarter and so far, it has gotten $25,000 in pledges. It has a way to go before it reaches its $120,000 goal by March 30th.
If the funding happens, the documentary will tell the story of how Vig and fellow Garbage-member Steve Marker founded Smart Studios and closed its doors for good in 2010. Artists who sat for interviews in the doc include Shirley Manson, L7′s Donita Sparks, Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla, Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, as well as members of Killdozer, Die Kreuzen, Bongzilla, Young Fresh Fellows and more.
By the way , there are rewards for people who help with the funding. Rewards include dinner with Vig and Marker, autographed posters and various skull caps. If all goes as planned, the doc would be out by October 2015.
